Children in Hospital Ireland are looking for volunters
Children in Hospital Ireland (CIH Ireland) is looking for locals to join their volunteer play team at Mayo University Hospital and support children, young people and their families in the hospital.
With over 300 volunteers across 14 hospitals in Ireland, CIH’s volunteers provide play opportunities and can help ease the hospital journey for children and their families.
Volunteer Manager at Children in Hospital Ireland, Elizabeth Morrin, said volunteers play a ‘huge role’ in making hospitals ‘a happier place’ for children and young people.
“Play is a welcomed distraction in the hospital and can help the child build the skills they need to cope with their illness. It’s a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to have some fun too” said Ms Morrin.
Weekday and weekend volunteering opportunities are available and anyone above the age of 18 is ‘welcome to apply’.
No experience is necessary, as training will be provided.
The role would require volunteers to dedicate 2 hours once a week in which they will have the opportunity to engage in activities such as arts and crafts, board games, card games and more.
