RIP: tributes paid to wonderful local Mayo historian who passed away unexpectedly

Tributes have been paid to Clarmorris man John (Jack) Egan who passed away last week. 
Many remarked on his sense of humour and on what a gentlemen and good neighbour he was. 
He was also a keen local historian and a mine of information for people. 
Michael and Teresa Keane, Claremorris and Salthill, wrote on RIP.ie: "A wonderful local historian on the happenings in Claremont house and the Connaught Rangers, he will missed by all. Tá an-bhrón orainn é seo a chloisteáil. Fear ciúin agus lách a bhí ann. Beannacht Dé lena anam uasal".

The staff at Hollymount Nursing Home expressed their sincere sympathy to John's sister Mary and all family members. "We will miss John," they said and his interest in horses. "He was a great man to let us know what weather to expect and as for lotto numbers! A really lovely gentleman - may John rest in peace". 

"A perfect picture to remember Uncle Jack by. I will always remember his chuckle laugh. Rest in peace," wrote Pat Egan. 

Expressing sympathy to Jack's family, Pat and Bridie Connaughton wrote: "One of the old stock of our parish a kind and gentleman. May Jack now Rest in Peace".

Jack's death occurred unexpectedly in the care of Mayo University Hospital.

He was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Norah, brothers Pat, Tommy, Eugene and Michael.

Jack will be sadly missed by his sister Mary (Knock), cousin Seamus (Hollymount), nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Reposal was at St Colman’s Funeral Home, Lower James Street, Claremorris  on Sunday evening, February 11 from 5 o’clock with removal to St. Colman’s Church, Claremorris. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Monday morning at 11am with burial afterwards in St Colman’s cemetery.
