Bond movie for Cong; Achill Coast Guard dispute resolved; Mayo team to be named tonight
Moore to shoot romantic comedy in West
The south Mayo tourist village of Cong looks set to become the setting for a new film based around the shooting of The Quiet Man movie there in 1950. James Bond star Roger Moore is to shoot a romantic comedy and it’s also rumoured that the former 007 star will be the film’s producer. Well-known actors Aidan Quinn, Geraldine Chaplin and Sarah Bolger will star in the film.
Achill Coast Guard to move into new building
Talks between officials from the Department of Transport and Mayo County Council yesterday (Tuesday) have seen an agreement reached which will allow the Achill Coast Guard to finally move into their new state-of-the-art premises. A legal disagreement over the lease of the building meant the local Coast Guard unit were unable to occupy the state-of-the-art building, even through it was ready to be occupied two years ago.
Mayo team to be named for Galway game tonight
The Mayo team to take on Galway in next Sunday’s FBD League final will be named after training tonight. John O’Mahony will be without Keith Higgins (hurling commitments), Liam O’Malley (unavailable) and Trevor Mortimer (suspended) while Alan Freeman and Kieran Conroy are not available either because they already played in the competition with their colleges. Alan Feeney, Lee Keegan, Chris Barrett and Barry Kelly are among those likely to be pressing for inclusion.
