Country Roads Sligo singer Patrick Feeney is about to embark on a 15-date concert tour which will include the TF.
Patrick Feeney on tour
NEW roads are beckoning for Sligo singer Patrick Feeney. The young man from Gurteen is about to embark on a 15-date concert tour which will mark a new phase in the ongoing career of the talented entertainer. Patrons in this area will get a chance to see the new show when he appears in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar on Friday night, January 25. The special guests are Sandy Kelly and Annette Griffin. Patrick has been busy rehearsing material for the show, which will tour under the title of ‘The Irish Connection’. He will be joined by the renowned producer, Carl Hession from Galway, who is lending his expertise to the venture. Manager Joe Finnegan says Patrick is very excited about the new show. “He is anxious to put his own interpretation on many of the old Irish ballads. He has always loved the songs of John McCormack and the great Irish tradition of melodies and beautiful songs that have endeared Ireland to millions around the world. Many of these great songs have been neglected for far too long and I think it is great to see a young and talented singer like Patrick take this fine tradition on board. “He is fulfilling a lifelong dream and is delighted with the material he is featuring in the show. There will also be uillean pipes, concert flute and tin whistle, something that should make him feel very much at home, coming from the Gurteen area which has always been steeped in the Irish music tradition.” Patrick is more than pleased to get this opportunity to portray himself in a new light. “I have always wanted to sing the classic Irish ballads. I want to give them my own interpretation. Nowadays, these songs are rarely heard and I want to change all that. I believe the show will reignite people’s interest in these songs which are unique to Ireland.” Among the songs he will be including in the new concert show are Danny Boy, Cavan Girl, Go Lassie Go, Carrickfergus, and his hit of last year, Moon Over Ireland. Plans are already in place to take the show to America next spring where Joe Finnegan believes there should be a ready market for such a promotion. He will return to the dancing circuit in early February where Patrick and his band have established a loyal following. Tickets for the Patrick Feeney and guests in ‘The Irish Tradition’ are now available from the box office at the TF in Castlebar.
