ART Mayo Artists Exhibition draws a crowd

Diversity on display at Mayo Artists Show


Covering the walls of The Linenhall Arts Centre’s gallery, foyer, and more, the Mayo Artists Show continues to present a dazzling display of home-grown art. As usual, there is great interest in this popular biennial celebration of the visual arts in Mayo, and it has been attracting many visitors keen to experience first hand the county’s artistic talents on a large scale.
And large scale the Mayo Artists Show certainly is. The open submission exhibition was selected by acclaimed Mayo-based artist Veronica Bolay RHA from almost 300 submitted works inspired by the theme ‘Flight of Fancy’. The resulting exhibition, comprising some 180 works in total, presents a cornucopia of visual art in all manner of media – painting, print, photography, fabric, sculpture and more. It’s a fascinating snapshot of the breadth of arts practice in the county.
The exhibiting artists are too many to mention (around 130 in total), but among them are Niall McCormack, Deirdre Walsh, Bernie Garvey O’Mara, Chris Leech, Ian Wieczorek, Denise Clarke, Will O’Kane, Mags Duffy, Betty Gannon, Caroline Masterson, Killian Dunne, Breda Burns, Mark Walsh, Suzie Sullivan and Paul Fullard.
The Linenhall’s director, Marie Farrell, has watched the show evolve year on year, and her pride in its growth is evident: “Since its inception, the Mayo Artists Show has been going from strength to strength. I think I can safely say that this year’s exhibition is undoubtedly the best yet … It is a great indication of the level of engagement by people at all stages of artistic practice. I am delighted that we can again celebrate the quality and diversity of Mayo’s artistic endeavours here at The Linenhall.” It would be hard to disagree.
The Mayo Artists Exhibition runs until the end of January. Please note that The Linenhall will be closed from Thursday, December 24, until Monday, January 4.
