The ‘Have a HeART’ initiative partners Westport Lions Club with local artists and musicians to raise funds for community projects
ON SHOW ‘Stranded’, by Westport-based artist SiobhΡn McGuire.
Have a HeART is a new initiative that partners Westport Lions Club with local artists and musicians, supporting creativity for a healthier community. The club is launching its first event as part of this initiative this Thursday, September 5, with an art exhibition entitled ‘Wandering’ by Westport artist SiobhΡn McGuire in the Clew Bay Hotel Gallery.
This exhibition is a unique opportunity for members of the public to own a piece of original local art, with a percentage of all sales being used to fund new and existing projects at the heart of the community’s needs.
Siobhan McGuire is a visual artist, originally from Manchester, of Irish parents. She has been living and teaching in Westport for the past 19 years. She graduated from the University of Derby in 1992, with a degree in Art and Design, with a specialism in woodcut printmaking. Siobhan has a deep connection to the Irish landscape, and this new exhibition is comprised of a series of abstract landscape paintings in acrylic, oil, wax and encaustic, created over the past year.
Her work is an intuitive, soulful expression of the body’s visceral and sensory response to, and memory of the natural environment, experienced through absorption and immersion.
Whilst Irish in subject matter, the artworks exude an urban energy through vivid, bold use of colour and expressive mark-making, reflecting her dual identity.
In the past year, SiobhΡn has exhibited in the Westport Arts Festival, the Mayo Day Exhibition in Turlough House and the Art and Psyche exhibition in Limerick.
If you are an artist or musician and would like to collaborate in an event or be involved in a mentorship programme please get in touch with Nicky Dowd Westport Lions Club or leave a note at The Clew Bay Hotel Reception.
All are welcome to the opening night of SiobhΡn McGuire’s exhibition in the Clew Bay Hotel this Thursday night, September 5, from 7pm to 8pm. The exhibition will run until September 30.
