Award-winning Irish comedian Danny O’Brien will perform in The Royal Theatre, Castlebar, this Friday, April 26, presenting comedy lovers with a great chance to see one of our brightest comedy stars in the ascendant.
Following in the footsteps of Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran and Dara O’Briain, O’Brien was handpicked this year to perform as part of the iconic Best of the Edinburgh Fest show touring Australia. He recently supported American comedian Bill Burr, performing to over 7,000 people in Dublin (“He opened for me at the 3Arena and f*cking murdered it!” says Burr).
For material for his current show, ‘Lock-In’, O’Brien and fellow comedian John Colleary visited three Irish prisons – one while O’Brien was suffering the after effects of a pub lock-in with Bill Burr the night before. A prison riot broke out during another. Still, the Wicklowman reckons the audiences in jail were a lot easier than some of the Christmas parties he’s performed for.
‘Lock-In’ has already sold out at Galway International Arts Festival, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a ten-city European run of shows. Later this year O’Brien will embark on an epic 12-country tour, so catch his show in Castlebar while you still can. Mayo comedian Bob Hennigan will be performing too, in the support spot.
