Mannion and Mitchell ponder piscine possibilities

‘Or would you rather be a fish?’ is the intriguing title for an evening with writers Geraldine Mitchell and Una Mannion that takes place at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar tonight (Tuesday), September 26 at 8pm.
Under the gentle probing of Dr SiobhΡn Garrigan, come and hear writers Geraldine Mitchell and Una Mannion reveal why they enjoy working with words above all else and why, like the poet Paterson in Jarmusch’s eponymous film, they would definitely not rather join the aquatic species.
Geraldine Mitchell is no stranger to Mayo readers. She has published fiction and biography in the past but it is for her poetry she is best known. Her third collection, ‘Mountains for Breakfast’, was launched by Michael Longley last March.
This year alone, Sligo-based Una Mannion won the Hennessy Award for Poetry, the Cúirt fiction prize and the Doolin short story competition. Una is also working on a novel. She teaches at IT Sligo where she is also Programme Chair of the new BA in Writing & Literature.
SiobhΡn Garrigan is the author of numerous books and papers and is currently Head of the School of Religions, Peace Studies and Theology at Trinity College Dublin, having previously taught at Yale and the University of Exeter.
Tonight’s evening of readings and discussion promises to be wide-ranging, entertaining and inspiring.
