Mayo Concert Orchestra tunes up for annual concert

CULTURE Mayo Concert Orchestra will present its annual concert in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar, this Friday, May 6

READY TO ENTERTAIN Mayo Concert Orchestra.

Mayo Concert Orchestra will present its annual concert, this year entitled ‘Mayo Sounds of Music’, in Breaffy House Hotel, this Friday, May 6, at 7.30pm. The evening’s entertainment will include classical favourites with commemorative moments.
Mayo Concert Orchestra, a community-based voluntary organisation, is celebrating 21 years in existence this year. The organisation involves musicians from right across Co Mayo, including Ballyhaunis, Achill, Castlebar, Westport, Kiltimagh and the nearby towns. All ages are represented too, from school goers to the active retired.
This upcoming summer concert’s repertoire will include well-known classical and film music, as well as some Irish arrangements in honour of the Centenary celebrations of 2016.
Director George Lee and his band of musicians are happy to welcome back baritone Ronan Egan as a special guest, and the Mayo Youth Orchestra under the direction of Anne Moriarty. Ronan’s singing brings a lyrical contrast to the orchestral entertainment, while the young musicians will bring fresh energy to the event. The combination of acts presents a broad choice of music that should appeal to young and older people alike.

Children are free
As part of the event, Mayo Concert Orchestra is inviting children to attend at no charge, giving them the chance to experience the power of a live orchestra. Finger food will be available at the end of the event for anyone who would like to join in the party mood.
Last year, the orchestra embarked on a hugely successful tour of Co Mayo to celebrate its 20th year, and all of the the members are very much looking forward to this year’s events.
Tickets for the concert in Breaffy  House Hotel are available from Gavin’s shop, Spencer Street, and John O’Donnell’s Pharmacy. Ellison Street, Castlebar, as well as from the committee and some members.
