The cream of Irish folk performers including SeΡn Keane, Johnny Duhan, Charlie McGettigan are coming together on October 24 for an evening of ceol agus craic at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. All proceeds from the night, dubbed Festival Folk, will go to St Joseph’s Secondary School, Castlebar. Also on the line-up are Rig The Jig, Louise Killeen and Brendan Emmett, Valerie Armstrong, and St Angela’s Grúpa Ceoil, as well as St Joseph’s Traditional Group. The night’s entertainment will also feature the 250-strong St Joseph’s Secondary School choir. “This fundraising will support us in ensuring that our girls will continue to be exposed to a variety of rich experiences during their time in St Joseph’s,”says school principal Marie Mac Cabe. “We are very excited about this event and know it’s going to be a very entertaining night for the musicians involved and for all in attendance.” Ms Mac Cabe also said that the school has been overwhelmed by the support shown for the school. “We are so very grateful to all the artists for performing on the night and to our friend Michael Banahan who is at the core for assisting us in organising this very special event together with our students, the parents, the local community in Castlebar and its hinterland,” she said.
Tickets, priced €18 (€15 for senior citizens and students), are now on sale from The Royal Theatre Box Office on 0818 30 0000, St Joseph’s Secondary School on 094 9021406, Downtown Records Castlebar and Westport, Music Megastore in Castlebar, Castlebar Book Shop and Gavin’s on Spencer Street, Castlebar.
