Russian Delingquents warm up for The Saw Doctors

The upcoming Westport Music Festival means another chance for fans to catch up with Westport’s latest music phenomenon, the ‘Russian Delingquents’. The band are playing support to The Saw Doctors, and will be taking to the stage at 8pm this Friday, July 27.
This vibrant young foursome are rapidly coming to the attention of the music scene. Their achievements to date include winning The Cove Youth Band Competition, two years in a row. Recently, they won at the Westport Festival of Music and Performing Arts Battle of the Bands, which led to them opening the festival, kicking off the show from the main stage.
The band first started busking together in the summer of 2007, and have been on an upward trajectory ever since. An offbeat, quirky and colourful crew, The Russian Delingquents already have a big following. They cite their influences as the White Stripes, U2, The Presidents of the United States of America, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Talking Heads and Flight of the Conchords.
Local musician, Michael ‘Drums’ Kelly, has taken a particular interest in the band and is using his considerable experience to help them hit the big time.
“We need to get behind our youth and talent,” says Kelly. “The Russian Delingquents have huge potential. We need to foster and encourage the band, helping them to become what they can truly be. The whole community can get behind the boys by attending the street festival gig.” The band will also play a later gig at 11pm in The Jester that night.
