A graduate from North Mayo has taken a new career direction through a prestigious internship with Irish-language broadcaster TG4.

Séadna Ó Domhnaill, from Killala, is currently undertaking a year-long placement with Bloc TG4, marking a shift from his academic background in commerce into the world of media and broadcasting.

Graduate of the University of Galway, where he earned a first-class honours degree in Business with Irish, Séadna developed an interest in media during his studies after working on content with TG4’s Bloc platform.

Since 2018, TG4 has offered internships to graduates and newcomers to the industry, providing practical experience across areas such as production, social media, sports broadcasting and digital content creation.

Interns work across a range of departments including Bloc, MOLSCÉAL, Spórt TG4 and Foghlaim TG4.

Speaking about his experience, Séadna described the internship as “extremely valuable”, encouraging other graduates to consider it as a pathway into the media industry.

Beyond broadcasting, Séadna has a strong background in traditional Irish music. A talented piper, he has been involved in the Fleadh from a young age and continues to perform with his siblings in their band, InTune.

Despite not growing up speaking Irish or attending a Gaelscoil, his passion for the language developed during a summer course on the Aran Islands, which inspired him to pursue further studies and opportunities through Irish.

TG4 said the internship programme offers participants a chance to build skills, gain confidence and establish a foundation for a career in media, particularly for those with strong Irish-language abilities.

Applications are now open for the next intake of interns, with the closing date set for April 12.
