An Garda Síochána in Mayo will host a free property marking event at the Mayo/Sligo Mart in Ballina on Tuesday, March 24
An Garda Síochána in Mayo is set to host a free property marking event in Ballina tomorrow (Tuesday, March 24), aimed at helping local farmers and property owners protect valuable equipment from theft.
The initiative will take place at the Mayo/Sligo Mart on Tuesday, March 24, from 9 am to 2 pm, and will be led by Gardaí attached to the Mayo North Community Engagement Area.
The event will offer a free engraving service, where members of the public can have their Eircode marked onto farm machinery, tools and other valuable items using specialist equipment.
Gardaí say the simple measure can act as a strong deterrent to theft while also significantly improving the chances of recovering stolen property.
“This is a free service and a practical way for people to safeguard their belongings,” a spokesperson said. “We encourage anyone with valuable items to come along and avail of the opportunity.”

Attendees are asked to bring their Eircode along with the items they wish to have marked.
The initiative forms part of a wider rollout across Mayo, with similar events planned in other locations in the coming months for those unable to attend in Ballina.
In addition to the property marking service, Gardaí will also be available on the day to provide information and advice on firearms licence renewals.
