EU regulations see liquid restrictions re-introduced to Knock flyers

The limited restrictions ensured a quicker, smoother, security experience at the airport

Changes in regulations will see temporary liquid restrictions being re-introduced to passengers flying from Knock airport, and across the EU.

From September 1, changes to EU regulation will see the re-introduction of temporary liquid restrictions at Ireland West Airport and airports across the EU.

New technologies limiting restrictions had been introduced last year, making the security experience at the airport run faster and smoother.

In compliance with the new European Commission directive for EU airports, passengers will not be permitted to carry liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) in containers greater than 100ml in their cabin baggage through security at the airport.

All LAG’s must be of 100ml or less, stored in clear transparent bags and taken out of your cabin baggage before going through security. There will be no limit on the number of plastic bags used per passenger.

Exceptions remain in place for essential items over 100ml such as baby products, special dietary needs and medications, which also must be placed in a clear transparent bag, separate to the LAG’s.

As this is a temporary measure, Ireland West Airport will continue to work closely with the European Commission and the Department of Transport to ensure that all security measures are implemented smoothly and efficiently. The new guidelines do not affect electronics items, such as laptops and phones, which can remain in your cabin baggage when going through security at Ireland West Airport.

As different airports may operate different security scanner systems, passengers are advised to check the liquid restrictions locally at each airport as part of your trip.

For more information on these new guidelines, see the Ireland West Airport website.
