The Order of Malta Ireland has proudly announced its dedication and support to all of the pilgrims who took part in Reek Sunday.
An estimated 5000 people made the journey to a sunny Croagh Patrick yesterday to celebrate the annual pilgrimage which marked 80 years of service.
The new pilgrim’s path, completed by the Croagh Patrick Stakeholder's group, enhanced the safety of many climbers on the mountain.
This year, as always, the Order's presence included strategically placed first aid stations, mobile units, and a team of highly trained volunteers ready to respond to any medical emergencies or needs.
The annual pilgrimage takes place each year on the Reek
Brian Moran, Assistant Commander with Westport Order of Malta, told The Mayo News that ten people received treatment at their Murrisk base, with three being transferred to Mayo University Hospital, including one person who had to be airlifted from the mountain. None of the injuries sustained were serious.
Since 1944, the Order has been an integral part of the spiritual and cultural event, providing essential assistance and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
For the past eight decades, Order of Malta Ireland has been unwavering in its commitment to the event, deploying a dedicated team of volunteers and medical personnel to provide first aid, medical assistance, and support services along the route.
