A Mayo drama group received resounding success at the All-Ireland drama finals.

St Patrick's Drama Group from Westport came in fourth place overall at the recent final in Mountmellick with their performance ‘Agnes of God’.

Described as a beautiful performance, the group of Coveys had the audience on their feet, applauding their talents.

Adjudicator, Walker Ewart, had a very positive response to the performance and said he couldn't separate the three girls' performances (Sinead Brogan as Agnes. Martina Ryan as Reverend Mother and Colette McGinty as psychiatrist Dr Martha Livingstone).

Mr Ewart also loved the soundscape, the live singing backstage of Orla Uí Dhomhnaill and Alice Burns. He praised director Seamas Cafferkey for his understated set, which fit perfectly with the play.

With the calibre of performances at the final so high, 91 points for the Mayo group was a fantastic achievement.

A spokesperson for the group said they were ‘absolutely thrilled’.

“This is an incredible achievement for St Patrick's Drama Group, who only joined the festival circuit last year with ‘Dear Frankie’,” they continued.

The highlight of the event was actress Colette McGinty winning the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Dr Martha Livingstone.

The group’s successes will not end with the All Ireland awards, as their production of ‘Agnes of God’ has been invited to perform as the main play at the prestigious Listowel Writers Week later this month.
