THE N17 south of Ballindine has reopened to traffic following a three-vehicle collision which claimed the life of a woman in her 80s.

She became the eleventh person to die on the country’s roads in 2024 after being involved in a crash involving a van and two cars between the village of Ballindine and Milltown.

The female driver (40s) of the same vehicle in which the woman was fatally injured is being treated in University Hospital Galway (UHG) for injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening.

The female driver (20s) of the second car was uninjured while the male driver (50s) of the van was removed from the scene to UHG with serious injuries.

Garda investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Both the RSA and Gardaí are asking motorists to slow down and drive with caution during the ongoing icy road conditions.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N17 at Gortnagunned, Milltown, Galway between 9.30am and 10.00am on January 16, 2024, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
