A woman in her 80s has died following a fatal road accident which occurred near Ballindine.
Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a van and two cars, that occurred shortly after 10am this morning (Tuesday) on the N17 at Gortnagunned, in Milltown, Co Galway, five kilometres from the South Mayo village.
The female driver (40s) of the same vehicle in which the woman was fatally injured was removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway (UHG) where she is being treated for her injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.
The female driver (20s) of the second car was uninjured and received treatment at the scene.
The male driver (50s) of the van was removed from the scene to UHG with serious injuries.
The N17 at Milltown is currently closed with local diversions in place. A technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is ongoing at this time.
Traffic was diverted away from the N17 in the south of Ballindine onto the R328 towards Milltown for hours following the collision earlier today (Tuesday).
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N17 at Gortnagunned, Milltown, Galway between 9.30am and 10.00am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
