The Ballycroy Visitor Centre will host a number of events this weekend.
There are a number of interesting free events that will have something for everyone as the Wild Nephin National Park celebrates Space Week.
The events kick off tomorrow morning, Friday, October 6, with Yoga in Nature at 9.30am (until 10.30am) at the Ballycroy Visitor Centre (you must book your place for this event).
Also on Friday, at the Visitor Centre, there will be a Planet Champion Workshop with Declan Holmes. Declan’s workshop will look at solutions to the climate crisis and how to make changes in our lives for a better future.
On Saturday, October 7, join guide Sinead at the outdoor classroom at the Visitor Centre as she explores the wild and amazing alien like life in the Bog Pool from 11am to 1pm and between 2pm and 4pm.
On, Sunday, October 8, join the guides on a morning hike though forest roads and along the Bangor Trail as they visit the famous solitary oak tree along the trail and look out over the Owenduff Atlantic Blanket Bog, the largest intact Atlantic Blanket bog in Western Europe. Along the way, learn about this amazing landscape and how the old oak tree has adapted to survive in this harsh environment. Also, keep eyes and ears open in the hope of encountering rutting deers. This is a strenuous event over uneven surface and a high level of fitness is essential. Over 16 years of age only and no dogs allowed. Appropriate footwear and clothing is required as well as food and liquids to complete this 14km hike. Time estimated for hike is 6-7 hours.
Also on Sunday, October 8, their is the celestial bodies event at the Ballycroy Visitor Centre between 6pm and 7pm. This is a meditative journey through your inner space (you must book your place for this event).
