CLAREMORRIS had to win a penalty shootout before tearing off down the N17 with a coveted Junior B county title after a game fought in conditions that bordered on deluge in Charlestown this afternoon.

Goalkeeper Darragh Fallon made the difference with two spot kick saves as Sean Niland, Stephen Gill, Tom Kean Conor McGuinness did the honours from the white dot.

Parke were the better team in the first half, outscoring their opponents 0-9 to 0-3.

However, Claremorris slowly worked their way back into contention, with Oran McNulty stepping up to level in injury time after Parke only scored one in the second half.

The first half of extra time produced one major talking point when Conor Óg Dennedy was sent off for a second yellow card.

There the scores were still level after the mini-break before substitute Sean Niland looked to have clinched it with a point in the 75th minute.

But there was more drama when John Cloherty delivered a ball which was accidentally fisted over the bar by the Claremorris goalie to make 0-11 all 11 minutes into in the second half of extra time.

Darragh Fallon was the hero with two saves as Stephen Gill, Thomas Kean, Conor McGuinness, and Sean Niland did the honours for Claremorris.

In the end, it was Fallon who broke Parke’s hearts when he denied Dara Kelly after a previously saving John Cloherty’s spot kick.

There will be a full report plus reaction from Claremorris captain Mikey Gallagher in Tuesday's print edition of The Mayo News.
