Council marks tenth anniversary of Mayo Day with flights competition

Mayo Day is the annual celebration of all things Mayo and Mayo County Council have announced its milestone tenth-anniversary celebration will be taking place in May 2024.

To mark this historic occasion, the council are proud to present a fantastic ‘Home to Mayo’ competition, offering participants the chance to win a pair of flights ‘Home to Mayo’ during the month of May next year from anywhere in the world.

Since its inception, Mayo Day has become a celebrated occasion, embodying the essence of Mayo's rich heritage, vibrant culture, and strong community spirit.

Earlier this year Mayo Day took over the town of Ballina for a day of music, entertainment, food, art, and culture that will live long as one of the highlights of the Ballina 2023 celebrations.

The ‘Home to Mayo’ competition is a key piece of next year’s tenth anniversary celebrations. It is open to individuals from all corners of the globe, this competition provides an unparalleled opportunity for one lucky winner and a guest to experience the warmth and charm of Mayo.

So, make sure to tell your friends and family wherever they are around the globe, be it in Brisbane, Boston, Beijing or not to far from home in Bristol – they could be in with a chance of winning a trip of a lifetime ‘Home to Mayo’ next year.

The ‘Home to Mayo’ competition was launched by the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Loftus at the Milwaukee Irish Fest where Mayo County Council were on hand to spread the good word about Mayo and all it has to offer to the 100,000 attendees at the world’s largest Irish festival.

Mags Connell, Administrative Officer, Communications Department of Mayo County Council speaking about the ‘Home to Mayo’ competition said: “Reaching out and connecting with our Mayo Diaspora is something that we have always taken great pride in and with Mayo Day celebrating its tenth birthday next year, we felt this was an amazing opportunity to combine both and offer the chance for someone and their guest to fly ‘Home to Mayo’ next year to join in the celebrations.

“Of course, you don’t have to be part of the Mayo Diaspora to take part in this great competition, it’s open to everyone around the world and Mayo is ready to welcome new friends from far and wide.”
