ALL are invited to join Westport’s Ukrainian community in marking the 32nd anniversary of the country’s independence day taking place tomorrow (August 24).
Once again, The Towers at The Quay have agreed to host an outdoor barbeque from 3pm to 6pm to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day. There will also be workshops on Ukrainian music, dancing and culture. All events are free of charge.
Olga Bondarenko, who has been living in Murrisk since April of last year, said: “Now at home the holiday is being held to the sound of sirens, rocket and artillery fire. A full-scale war against the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine has been going on for a year and a half. The united, beautiful and strong people are fighting for their freedom, experiencing the most difficult times since the formation of the state in 1991.
“I wish everyone faith in our victory hope for better times, always be patriots of Ukraine. Let’s remember the words of Taras Shevchenko: ‘The truth is in one's own house, both strength and will'.”
