A BOY from Westport will become one of the only players from his club ever to hurl in Croke Park tomorrow afternoon.

Paddy Ketterick will represent Westport GAA Club, Brackloon NS and Mayo in a Cumann na mBunscol exhibition match at half-time in tomorrow’s All-Ireland Hurling Final between Kilkenny and Limerick.

Paddy was recently part of a Brackloon NS team that won their first ever Cumann na mBunscol Division 1 title in a thrilling decider against Tooreen.

In addition to the Cumann na mBunscol crown, the up-and-coming hurling nursery have won the Pat Cox Cup and the Mini 7s county hurling title in recent times.

Speaking to The Mayo News earlier this week, Brackloon NS Deputy Principal Kathy Quinn said the whole school were ‘very proud’ to see Paddy playing in Croke Park.

“He’s just one of those kids, he’s super solid, really reliable, just brings it every time, works really hard, really hard, really diligent and you can really rely on him,” said Ms Quinn.

“He’s just completely reliable and very talented with it - and very modest with his talent too.”

Paddy is also grandson of the late Stephen Broderick, who for many years was a driving force behind the growth of hurling in the Westport area.
