THERE are now over 800 Ukrainian children enrolled in schools across Mayo, according to the latest figures.
Statistics released by the Department of Education show that there are 804 Ukrainian students enrolled in schools across the county.
Of these, 526 are enrolled in primary school while 278 are enrolled in secondary school.
This represents a slight rise from the 770 that were enrolled in Mayo schools as of February 13, when 505 were enrolled in primary school while 265 were enrolled in secondary school.
Of the 15,625 Ukrainian students attending Irish schools, 5.1 per cent are living in Mayo.
According to the latest CSO statistics, 3,873 Ukrainian refugees have come to Mayo since Russia began the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Over 1,000 of these are living in Westport, where they comprise over 5 per cent of the population of the entire electoral area.
According to the CSO 12,615 boys and 11,798 girls from Ukraine under the age of 18 have arrived in Ireland since the start of the war.
In Galway, 628 Ukrainian children are enrolled in primary with 325 in post primary. Leitrim has 212 enrolled in primary and 134 in post primary.
Roscommon schools have 181 Ukrainian students enrolled in primary education and 62 in secondary while Sligo has seen 234 enrolled in primary and 161 in secondary.
