Claremorris dancer lauded by her community

World champion honoured in her home town

World champion dancer Rachel Cummins was honoured with a civic reception in her home town of Claremorris this week. Rachel, who recently won the Ladies 21-23 title at the Irish Dancing World Championships in Toronto was hosted by members of the Claremorris Swinford Municipal District at the council offices where she was showered with deserved praise for her achievement.

Rachel is a past pupil of Mount St Michaels Secondary School in Claremorris and a current teacher at Balla Secondary School. She out-danced competitors from Canada, England, USA and Mexico in Toronto where she was part of the impressive Flynn O'Kane Academy group.

Councillor Tom Connolly had earlier proposed that Rachel be honoured by the local authority and he was present alongside Director of Services Joanne Grehan, elected members and staff when Leas Cathaoirleach, Cllr Michael Burke made a presentation to the champion dancer on behalf of the community.
