The fate of Killala’s proposed windfarm development now lies in the hands of An Bord Pleanala
Killala windfarm plan appealed by five parties
The fate of Killala’s proposed windfarm development now lies in the hands of An Bord Pleanala – after a planning appeal was lodged with the planning board. Last month, Mayo County Council granted permission to Killala Community Wind Farm to develop a windfarm at Magherabrack, Mullafarry, outside Killala. The development proposed consists of six wind turbines and ancillary buildings. The county authority planners granted permission subject to 21 conditions, however that decision has now been appealed to An Bord Pleanala. Appeals have been submitted by five parties: Brian and Maggie Carroll; Patrick O’Malley; Peter Crossan and Kevin Deering and Willie and Dolly McGreal and PΡdraic Roche. Killala Community Windfarm and the parties involved will now have to wait until July 6 for the decision of the board. This is not the first time a windfarm proposal has gone down the planning appeals route in the locality. In 2008, plans for a €25 million development were shot down. At that stage, An Bord Pleanala turned down the plan – which was given the green light by Mayo County Council - to erect ten turbines on 700 acres.
