Boosting tourism numbers to Mulranny will be one of the main objectives from their new Community Futures Action Plan

Boosting tourism numbers to Mulranny will be one of the main objectives which the local community hope to achieve from their new Community Futures Action Plan. The west Mayo village is one of three communities in Mayo - Foxford and Killawalla the others - who were chosen to undertake a Futures Action Plan and outline what the community needs going forward. The Minister for Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Eamon Ó Cuív will formally launch the Mulranny Community Futures Action Plan for 2010-2015 next Monday in the Mulranny Park Hotel. Mayo Community Futures is a partnership of Community and Agencies and was established by the Community Forum in 2005 to assist communities prepare Community Action Plans and encourage more people to become active in their communities. The main priorities which the community wanted in the plan are improved road safety through the village, promote tourism and provide more activities for young people. Ciara McDermott of the Mulranny committee said that they were fortunate to be given the opportunity of making a creating a plan and believe it will be a huge boost for the community. “The beauty of this plan is when it will be launched the projects which the community want will be prioritised. Mayo County Council and Leader are backing things and once we get it going it should be put into action fairly quickly. If tourism is promoted it should be a major boost to the community. We will hope to tie the plan in with the walkways and we believe this will enhance the community. Once the plan is launched we will set up five or six sub-committees to bring it all together and hopefully we will see the results in 2015,” she said. Following the launch of the plan, Minister Ó Cuív will be travelling to Belmullet where he will launch three new Creative Industries projects in Áras Inis Gluaire. The projects to be launched are the Erris Events Database, the Certificate in Performing Arts and Digital Media Training Initiative.
