The Brickens region between Claremorris and Ballyhaunis was in deep shock last week following the sudden death of Tommy Hunt, some hours after delivering a moving tribute to his father Dermot at the end of the funeral Mass earlier that day.
Dermot Hunt (65) was a prominent farmer in the Brickens area over the years and commanded huge regard and respect throughout the region. His wife Mary, formerly Mulchrone from Newport, taught for many years in Mount St Michael Convent of Mercy in Claremorris. They raised a family of five. Dermot had been coping with an illness for some years. He is also survived by his brothers Gerald (London) and Joe (Brickens) and sister Mona O’Dea (Dublin).
Removal took place from Donnellan’s Funeral Home in Claremorris to Brickens Church on Monday evening with interment in Tulrahan cemetery after Requiem Mass on Tuesday. At the end of the Mass, Tommy (33), who worked for British Rail and who has lived in London for some years, reflected on his father’s life, describing him as a ‘concerned, loving father’.
Sometime during Tuesday night, Tommy died suddenly in his sleep in the family home.
The early morning news came as a great shock to family and friends. The hearts of all went out to his mother Mary, brothers Dermot and Vivian and sisters Andrea and Naoimi as they once again had to deal with the ordeal of coping with the loss of a family member.
Removal took place from the family home to Brickens Church on Friday morning with burial in Tulrahan cemetery immediately afterwards.
