A man who escaped from a holding cell through a heating vent in a Garda Station has appeared before Westport Court.

A MAN who escaped from a holding cell through a heating vent in a Mayo Garda Station appeared before Westport District Court last week
Mr Martin Maughan was arrested at Kilcon, Kiltimagh, at 11.35am on Thursday last, and brought before the court, on foot of a warrant relating to a burglary in Donegal. 
Garda Derek Conroy told Judge Mary Devins that when the accused was apprehended he had asked: “What’s this for, the fan is it?”.
It is understood that he was referring to his escape through the vent at Swinford Garda Station on August 26 last. The Mayo News understands there are charges pending regarding to criminal damage incurred on the date in question. 
 Mr Maughan has been remanded to appear before Swinford District Court on  Friday next, September 11.
