John O’Mahony will be asked to become the manager of the Mayo Senior football team this week.
O’Mahony, who returned from Boston yesterday (Tuesday) after managing Connacht in their Inter-Provincial final defeat to Leinster, is set to hear from Mayo County Board Chairman James Waldron in the very near future whereupon Waldron will offer O’Mahony the post vacated by Mickey Moran on Tuesday night of last week.
Speaking to The Mayo News last night Waldron said he had received numerous representations from clubs and individuals to enquire of O’Mahony’s intentions.
Waldron said that the inquires surfaced in light of last Thursday night’s Sports Talk Shop on Mid West Radio which O’Mahony co-hosts. When the issue of his interest in the vacancy came up for discussion O’Mahony said it would be wrong for him to make any declarations considering he had not been asked as of then.
