The community of Belderrig was in mourning last week following the tragic death of three-year-old Luke McHale.
Belderrig mourns tragic death of toddler
Anton McNulty
THE small village of Belderrig in north Mayo was engulfed in sadness following the tragic death of a three-year-old toddler who died in a quad bike accident on Tuesday last. Luke McHale of Belderrig Mór, Ballina, died as a result of an accident on private property at Glenglassera, near Ballycastle, on Tuesday night. His body was removed to Mayo General Hospital where a post mortem examination was carried out. Luke was the infant son of Liam and Liz McHale, and was laid to rest at the local cemetery following Mass of the Angels in St Teresa’s Church, Belderrig on Friday afternoon, attended by huge crowds. This is the second tragedy in the space of a few days to occur in Mayo involving toddlers and farmyard machinery. Last weekend, two-and-a-half-year-old Mark Molloy died when he was struck by a trailer which was being towed outside his house at Toorard, Glencorrib, Shrule.
