KILTIMAGH Fianna Fáil Cumann members have raised a glass in support of new Tanaiste, Mary Coughlan (pictured). The Donegal TD is no stranger to the area. She is married to David Charlton from Kiltimagh, a garda based in Glenties. Local Fianna Fáil member John Cronin said he was delighted when he heard that Mary had been promoted to the position of Tanaiste in the new government last week. “I’ve known her for years coming to Kiltimagh. I had many a drink with her. She’s a lovely lady, no airs or graces at all. We are all looking forward to giving her a big welcome when she visits Kiltimagh the next time,” said John. Mary’s husband David is son of Sara Ann and the late Denny Charlton. His mother, who resides in Kiltimagh, is delighted to have a daughter-in-law as Tanaiste. Three of David’s uncles, Tommy, Michael and Sean Charlton, travelled to Drumcliffe on Friday evening where they met up with Mary and David and their entourage when they stopped for dinner in the Yeats Tavern prior to moving on to a huge home county welcome in Bundoran, Ballyshannon, Donegal town and Glenties. “She was in great form and looking forward to the big challenge,” said Tommy Charlton. “There was a great buzz to the homecoming. We are all delighted for Mary. She is always a very welcome visitor to Kiltimagh where she has got to know so many people over the years. She is assured of a great welcome in her new capacity whenever she gets the chance to make her next journey to Kiltimagh.”
