Teenage boxing sensation Laura Moran is making global headlines this week after her prized ewe gave birth to five healthy lambs. The Aughagower teenager medaled at both the World and European Championships earlier this year, but her love of farming is also well-known and she was elated when the quintuplets arrived on Friday.
The ewe, who was a triplet herself, is only three years old but amazingly has now given birth to eleven lambs. In spring 2021 she had triplets; in 2022 she had triplets and went two better on Friday when producing five healthy lambs.
Multiple births in sheep is common, however vets have described the likelihood of quintuplets to be ‘one-in-a-million,’ and the odds of one ewe having eleven lambs in three years is unquantifiable.
The birth of the quintuplets was a great end to the week for Laura who captained Sacred Heart Secondary School in the All Ireland Colleges A final on Tuesday.
Laura might be making headlines on the football pitch and the boxing ring but her ewe is even more famous now after her historic delivery.
