Mayo gets €56m for roads

Funding of €56,685,737 has been allocated for the improvement and maintenance of roads in Mayo in 2020

Michael Ring, TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has confirmed that funding in the amount of €56,685,737 has been allocated for the improvement and maintenance of roads in Mayo in 2020. The allocation for improvements of roads in Mayo is €55,384,213 while the allocation for maintenance of roads is €1,310,524.
Minister Ring said: “This is a significant and much needed grant allocation which will allow for the maintenance and improvements on regional and local roads in Mayo in 2020.
“Well-maintained roads will lead to less costs for vehicle repair, a reduction in journey times and, crucially, safer roads for us all to travel on. This is further proof of the Government’s commitment to improving connectivity in rural areas.
“The €40 million allocation for the transformative Westport to Turlough N5 road is proof positive of the imminent start of this landmark project. Having worked hard from within Government for the delivery of this road I am hugely excited by the prospect of seeing the road taking shape. This €241 million road is the single largest Government investment in the history of Mayo and it will have an extremely positive effect on our county.
“It’s great to see that the Cloongullane Bridge on the N26 near Foxford is finally going to be replaced. The current bridge has outlived its purpose. This long awaited new bridge has been allocated €2,500,000 and its delivery will be widely welcomed by the many people that use the route.”
