Charlestown concerns over new N5 access

Michael Commins

CONCERN has been expressed in the Charlestown area in relation to access to the town from the new N5 bypass. Local residents and visitors have brought the matter to the attention of members of the Charlestown and Bellaghy Chamber of Commerce in recent weeks.
Meetings are now being arranged with County Council officials and the NRA is being notified with regards to these concerns. It is hoped to put in place some new signs for the town as well as a fresh sign at the exit from Knock Airport.
The Chamber has also contacted the Department of Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs in relation to the status of the site for the new department offices in Charlestown or Bellaghy.
Delight has been expressed by Chamber members with the recent announcement that the Church has agreed with Mayo County Council to lease, long-term, the land close to the church for a community park and playground facilities.
Local councillor, Gerry Murray, updated members of the Chamber on the proposed upgrading of the new town sewerage system.
