Council urges public to heed Government’s advice on weather warning

Council offices to close from 2pm this afternoon until Monday morning due to Red Alert

MAYO County Council has issued a statement today (Wednesday) urging the public to heed all advice given by the Government in light of Met Éireann’s decision to put the entire country on Red Alert to the prevailing weather conditions.
Following a meeting of Mayo County Council’s Senior Management Team and Severe Weather group this morning, Martina Hughes, Head of Communications, said that Mayo County Council will close its offices, including libraries and civic amenities, from 2pm this afternoon (Thursday), March 1, until Monday, March 5, at 9am.
“Essential services from our winter-maintenance crews will remain in place in addition to any staff supporting our response to this severe weather event,” said Ms Hughes.  
“Emergency contact numbers for the different areas of the local authority will be in place during the duration of the Red Alert warning [telephone numbers below]. Ongoing communications in relation to gritting will continue to be posted across all Mayo County Council social media.
“Mayo County Council would encourage the public to adhere to advice been given for this severe weather event. We would encourage drivers to always exercise caution when driving in poor weather conditions,” added Ms Hughes.
