30 teens taken ill after Foróige event

As many as 30 teens fell ill after attending a Foróige event on Lacken Strand in north Mayo

Foróige Regional Youth Officer for Mayo, Stephen Bourke , has confirmed that up to 30 teenagers fell ill after attending a Foróige event on Lacken Strand, North Mayo.
‘Band on the Strand’ was attended by over 2,000 teenagers from across Mayo on Saturday, July 1 and was a huge success. However, the following couple of days after the event, a substantial number of teenagers reported illnesses which included severe vomiting.
HSE’s Environmental Health Department received a list of the food vendors that were present on the night of the event.
Mr Bourke has confirmed that all vendors from Lacken had a license. He also pointed out that despite speculation, there has been no confirmation as to what exactly caused the illness to be experienced by so many children or as to whether or not it may just have been a virus.
