UK Police launch investigation after discovery of bodies on Wednesday morning
A sense of shock has descended on the parish of Aughagower and the wider Westport region this afternoon with the news that a young mother from the area and her seven-year-old son have been found dead in a house in London.
The bodies of Sinéad Higgins (37) and her son Oisín were discovered in The Fairways area of Ruislip in West London by the Metropolitan Police yesterday morning after concerns were expressed for their well-being. Ms Higgins is from a well-known Aughagower family but had been working in London for a number of years. Police in the UK confirmed the identity of the deceased this afternoon. They have said that they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the discovery.
News of the tragedy is bound to leave a deep sense of shock across the west Mayo area. Sinéad was daughter of Mary and the late Tom Higgins, who passed away in 2014. She is survived by five brothers and three sisters. She was predeceased by her brother, Cathal, who died in a motorcycle accident in 2004. More to follow.
