Gardaí are this morning continuing their investigation into the death of a married couple in Irishtown. They are keeping an ‘open mind’ about the nature of the deaths.
Tom and Kitty Fitzgerald were both found dead at their home in Knockadoon, Irishtown, a few hundred metres from the Galway border, yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.
The couple’s son, Paul, was injured in the incident and is being treated for head injuries at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.
A postmortem is not expected to take place until tomorrow. Members of the Garda Technical Bureau are in Irishtown today, examining the scene.
Tom Fitzgerald was in his 70s and Kitty Fitzgerald was in her 60s.
Chief Superintendent Pat Diskin is heading the investigation. He is asking anyone who noticed anything unusual in the Knockadoon area or anyone who had contact with any member of the Fitzgerald between Sunday night and Tuesday to contact the Incident Room at Claremorris Garda Station on 094 9372080.
