Council to seek advice from planning expert on TF issue

Mayo County Council are to engage the services of planning expert Professor Yvonne Scannell in relation to the issue of clamping at the TF Hotel in Castlebar.
Cllr Michael Kilcoyne (Ind) has criticised the clamping of cars at the TF since the issue arose last year and argues that the Hotel’s management are in breach of the planning they have for the hotel by clamping cars parked there.
Mayo County Council sought legal advice from their own solicitors and were told that there was no breach of planning. Cllr Kilcoyne asked that the council get independent legal advice and this was agreed at a recent meeting.
At Thursday’s meeting of Castlebar Municipal District Cllr Kilcoyne said he wanted to engage the services of Professor Scannell, who is based in Trinity College.
She is a barrister and has written books on Environmental and Planning Law. The meeting agreed to proceed with legal advice from Professor Scannell.
One council official asked who she was, to which Cllr Frank Durcan (Ind) shot back: ‘she acted for me against Mayo County Council and she beat ye out of the room’.
