THE champagne corks have been popping in one Westport pub this week, after The Porter House on Bridge Street was named Best Music Venue of the Year at the prestigious Sky Bar of the Year Awards.
Proprietor Joe O’Malley attended the awards ceremony in the Round Room in Dublin’s Mansion, and he told The Mayo News he was ‘ecstatic’ with the win.
“This award is recognition of all the hard work performed by our dedicated team of staff throughout the year. It’s also a great testament to the standing the public house is held in, and the high standards which we are intent on maintaining.”
Mr O’Malley added that the fact that the award was voted for by the public made it all the more prestigious.
The Sky Bar of the Year Awards, which were hosted by Newstalk presenter Tom Dunne, recognise excellent bars, knowledgeable staff, high-quality service and innovation in the bar trade.
An initial screening process involved an unannounced visit by the judging panel. This saw The Porter House being shortlisted along with eight other finalists in the category for best Music Venue in Ireland, before the vote was then put to the public.
