BREAKING NEWS John O'Mahony was confirmed as the new Mayo manager at the Welcome Inn Hotel.
O’Mahony’s appointment confirmed
Mike Finnerty Castlebar
John O'Mahony was confirmed as the new Mayo manager tonight at the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar. He has been appointed on a three year term and will be joined by Tommy Lyons and Kieran Gallagher who he has chosen as his selectors. Martin Carney will also be a member of the management team specialising in statistical and video analysis. A meeting of the Mayo GAA Board – which was closed to the media – ratified O’Mahony’s appointment. This brief meeting was followed by a press briefing where O’Mahony, Kieran Gallagher and Martin Carney, along with Mayo GAA officers, James Waldron, Sean Feeney and Noelle Horan, fielded questions for twenty minutes. Tommy Lyons was unavoidably absent due to work commitments. “There is a lot of hard work ahead for Mayo football during the next three years,” O’Mahony said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge and to meeting the players. I can guarantee you that my commitments outside of football will not interfere with managing the Mayo team.”
