Cameron flies the Mayo flag

MAYO was well represented at this year’s Dublin Horse Show by Mayo’s Cameron Hanley in the International jumping and also in the form of World Cruise who is ridden by Shane Breen and owned by well-known Knockmore man, Vinny Duffy.Both Cameron and World Cruise had a very impressive week. The Claremorris native was joint-eighth in the leading rider’s table for the show and impressed during the Aga Khan Nations Cup riding “Hippica Kerman”. A first round clear kept the Irish team in the running and finished third overall. Cameron also had some good results besides finishing fifth in the Speed Stakes, Speed Derby and the Speed Championship all aboard, SIEC Royal Star.World Cruise was the only horse on the Irish team to do a double clear in the Aga Khan. According to Vinnie Duffy (owner), “We couldn’t believe how well the horse has jumped. We always dreamed of the horse featuring in International competitions but now the horse is only beginning to hit his best form and hopefully there is a lot more left in him.” World Cruise also finished seventh in the Grand Prix which was the main event of the week and also finished seventh earlier on in the week in the Irish Sports Council Classic.
There were many there other Mayo horses in the winner’s enclosure. Tiernan Gill from Ballina won the two-year-old Gelding sporthorse class and also was placed fourth with a 3-year-old gelding. Frank Jennings from Roundfort won the yearling filly sporthorse class with a filly bred by the popular sporthorse, Porsche. Anthony Gordon, Ballina also won in the show ring in the 3-year-old filly class. Jackie and Noel Rowland’s 3-year-old horse finished second in the Loose Jumping competition.
Mayo had also may representatives in the pony jumping. Carol Cawley, Crossmolina and Cormac Hanley from Claremorris were just some of the budding stars of the future in action. Cormac is a nephew of Cameron and Carl who was also competing on the horses. The next major event in the horse calendar is the famous Millstreet show in Co Cork which is on all this week.

CLEAR 
World Cruise, ridden by Shane Breen and owned by Vinny Duffy, was the only Irish horse to jump a clear at the Nations Cup.
