A WOMAN who was rescued from Croagh Patrick on St Patrick’s Day has thanked all who came to her aid.
The first two callouts of the year by the Mayo Mountain Rescue occurred on St Patrick’s Day, when two climbers injured their ankles. Maureen O’Hara had to be winched from the mountain by the Coast Guard helicopter at approximately 2pm after she injured her ankle while climbing up the top cone part of the Reek.
Following her rescue, Maureen O’Hara got in touch with The Mayo News to thank all the people who helped her.
“I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks to the emergency services who liaised with the crew: Richard (paramedic) and all on the Coastguard helicopter who assisted me during my accident on Croagh Patrick on St Patrick’s Day. Also, to the Mayo Mountain Rescue team and several people who assisted me in every way while waiting for the helicopter.
“Also, I would like to thank the ambulance crew and staff in the emergency unit at Mayo General Hospital for their help and and dedication, despite the visible overcrowding in the corridors. All these people deserve great credit for their efficiency and professionalism,” she wrote.
A short time later another person suffered an ankle injury on the mountain. Fortunately, on this occasion, the injury was not as serious and the injured person could be walked from Reek with the assistance of Mayo Mountain personnel.
