Chelsea fan Oisín meets his heroes

BALLINROBE’S Oisín Gannon had his wish granted and met his footballing heroes at Chelsea Football Club last month.
Oisín, who was diagnosed with a life threatening brain tumour in September 2013, travelled to the club’s Cobham training ground with his mother to meet the entire Chelsea team.
Oisín’s wish was granted by Clare’s Wish Foundation, the only Irish charity that grants wishes for adults with terminal or life-threatening conditions.
Speaking to The Mayo News about the experience, Oisín’s mother Gemma said it was ‘an amazing day’.
“It was the most amazing day of his life. Peter Cech gave Oisín his goalie gloves as did Thibaut Courtois and Didier Drogba gave him his hat,” said Gemma. Though he didn’t get a chance to meet former Chelsea player Frank Lamphard on that visit, the footballer sent Oisín a video with well wishes.
On the flying visit to London, Oisín returned to the Teenage Cancer Trust Ward where he spent a number of months following his diagnosis.
“We visited the nurses that looked after him and some nurses even came in on their day off to see him. He is doing very well now and proving people wrong,” said Gemma.
Last month Oisín incredibly walked over three kilometres of the Ballinrobe Duathalon event and it is hoped with rehabilitation going well he will return to college this September.
