A 78-year-old woman died in a house fire in Ballyvary on Friday last.
Eileen McDonnell died as a result of a fire her home at Laughtavarry, Ballyvary on Friday afternoon.
The alarm was raised at approximately 2.30pm when smoke was spotted coming from the house.
Despite efforts by neighbours, a strong fire had taken hold and they were unable to gain access.
Fire services found Ms McDonnell in a room in the house and removed her to Mayo General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A technical examination of the scene has established that there was nothing suspicious about the fire and it is being treated as a tragic accident.
Ms McDonnell was laid to rest in Straide Cemetery yesterday (Monday) after Funeral Mass in St Joseph’s Church in Keelogues.
