Man accused of murdering two sons further remanded
A father who stands accused of murdering his two sons in Mayo last July, was further remanded in custody after appearing in court last Friday.
Sanjeev Chada, 43, from Ballinkillen, Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, arrived at Harristown District Court from the adjoining Castlerea Prison, where he is on remand since the bodies of his two sons, ten-year-old Eoghan and five-year-old Ruairí, were discovered in the boot of his crashed Ford Focus in Rosbeg, just outside Westport, on July 29 last. Mr Chada was apprehended at the scene.
Mr Chada, who had been reported missing along with his two sons by his wife the previous day, has been on suicide watch at the request of his solicitor since being detained at Castlerea Prison on Thursday, August 1.
Last week, Mr Chada stood before the court with his head bowed and did not speak during the brief hearing. He has been in receipt of legal aid since the court was advised at an earlier hearing that he had no income.
Inspector Padraig Jones told Judge Geoffrey Browne that the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions had been received in the case and he applied to have the accused man remanded in custody to appear at Castlebar District Court on November 6 for service of the book of evidence.
This was granted by Judge Browne.
