Mental Health services in Mayo received a boost following the announcement of eight new basic grade posts for Adult Mental Health services. The new posts will involve the appointment of two Psychologists, three Occupational Therapists and three Social Workers across Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) in Castlebar, Ballina, Westport/Ballinrobe, Claremorris and Belmullet/Achill. These new posts will form part of the €35 million initiative for Ireland’s community based mental health services and the HSE National Recruitment Service is proceeding to fill the posts. The announcement was welcomed by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who said it demonstrates the Government’s continued focus on the development of Mental Health services in the county. “The area of Mental Health has, for too long, been forced to take something of a backseat but the Government I lead is fully committed to making sure that will no longer be the case”.
