Jedward make teen’s dying wish come true


Student dies just six days after her heroes sang to her in Louis Walsh’s mother’s sitting room

A young Sligo girl had her last wish granted when she met Jedward in Kiltimagh recently. Amy Lowry (18) from Ballymote, and formerly from Cartron, Sligo, died six days later.
The young woman, who was a Leaving Cert student in Ballinode College in Sligo and who had attended her graduation night in the Clarion Hotel two weeks earlier, had been coping with cancer for some time. She loved music and entertainment and had taken a big shine to Jedward since they came on the scene.
It was her special wish to meet the twins and, when her parents Brendan and Marie heard they were coming to the Royal Theatre in Castlebar, they purchased tickets for the August 4 show. Through the intervention of close family friend, Margaret Gillen from Rosses Point, contact was made with Maureen Walsh, mother of manager Louis, in Kiltimagh and things began to fall into place.

Limo to Mayo
Amy was taken by limousine to Mayo and was under the impression she was going straight to the concert in Castlebar. The car stopped in Kiltimagh and, when the door of the Walsh sitting room was opened, there stood Jedward singing their Eurovision song ‘Lipstick’.
“Amy was overcome with the emotion of the occasion. The two lads were so nice to her … They spent nearly a half an hour with Amy. It was her last wish to meet them and she was so delighted that it came true.
We were all so thankful to Jedward and Maureen Walsh and her son Joe and family for making it happen. The whole event was recorded on DVD, so the family will have very special memories of the evening,” said Margaret. 
The family had planned to travel on the Elphin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes and Amy, realising her time was short, insisted that her parents and brother Kevin should still make the journey. Last Sunday, Brendan, Marie and Kevin joined the group as they flew out from Msgr Horan Airport, Knock for the week-long pilgrimage.
