Claremorris councillor refutes reports of his death

Mark Twain’s famous words “Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated” can now be used by Cllr Richard Finn
Richard Finn … “I’m still here”!
Michael Commins
MAYO Independent councillor had more reason that anyone to utter the words “reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated” last Sunday. Late on Saturday night, word spread like wildfire that Richard had “kicked the bucket”. The shock news was relayed at rapid pace by text around the Claremorris region. There was no stopping the rumour as it travelled throughout the district. Members of the extended Finn family circle fielded numerous tentative enquiries on Sunday morning with people sensitively enquiring if anything had happened to Richard the previous night. A spate of calls poured in until the early afternoon when the rumour was finally quashed and went silent. “It’s not a nice thing to go out about you but I can cope with it, said Richard. “I was out enjoying some beverages with my brothers Andrew and John and good constituents Richard and Josephine Trench from Mayo Abbey. And to think that so many people were talking about my welfare or lack of it might be more appropriate! All I can do is thank the people for their concern. All I can say is I’m still here!”
